I really, really, hate FP burners. Been called a dozen names in the last 2 days. I'm auto-dismissing everything now.

You haven't lived until you receive a nasty comment to a post you made two years ago. That happens often with the related posts feature.

This is the main reason I don't comment on the FP at all. Today was the first time I've done it in over a month. I visit the FP every day, but I have to remember not to comment.

Stay-away-from-commenting-on-the-FP. I rarely ever comment on the FP. The sheer volume of comments makes one think that it will never be seen. But there are some who must read every comment and are probably looking for something to troll about.

It's weird. Yesterday I got a burner reply to a comment from over a year ago (though it was actually a decent comment).

I really wish we could get rid of burners, if you're going to be an asshole at least be up front about it.

Hardigree I know you see this post!

What I don't understand is how they get out of the gray. There's trolls that have seemingly nothing to add except negativity that are approved commenters, and some people who would actually like to have a decent conversation (myself, and some other opponauts as well) aren't out of the gray. I tried at first thinking that if I commented regularly I would get approved, but I still haven't, so I rarely comment on anything that's on the FP...

Yeah, some burners are just dicks.

However, some of us do not use any social media sites and this is the only way we can get an account to post here.

this , exactly . I go out of my way to be polite and try to make sense with my comments , but stay grey . meanwhile , total assclowns with a proven track record of trollery are out of the grey .

I find it funny when I start getting reccomendations for comments I made weeks/months ago. "Hey, my comment is STILL funny/helpful!" I'll say to myself.

When it happens, I know it was a related story, and someone clicked on it and saw my comment. The older the better.

What's odd to me, is when someone comments (good or bad) on it. It's a dead discussion from weeks/months ago. I rarely reply back for that reason.

Speaking of replying back. I'm not afraid of the front page, I just rarely discuss things. I'll comment and run. Not trolling, but usually something silly and/or relevant*. I rarely reply back to my replies unless I have something more to add, or answer a question. Arguing on the FP is useless unless I'm replying with Coors Light.

*Unless I'm reading one of Andrew Trantatrollas Gizmodo articles and need to add corrections.

There's no one way to get out of the grey it seems. Most people ask to be out of the gray but I've asked someone on a post where they seemed to be ungraying everyone and didn't get out. I don't get it.

Yeah, it's sort of unfortunate, but oh well. Maybe eventually. I asked once on one of the COTD nomination posts that they put here since I knew it wouldn't get a ton of comments and that they'd likely see the comment, but still no luck.

I've given up on Jalopnik for the most part to tell you the truth. Oppo has more content and often better content. The writers are more like Automotive bloggers then Automotive Journalists.Torch and Matt Hardigree are pretty much the only people who are true journalists in my opinion.

I dunno, I still visit the FP a couple times a day. I don't read everything but there's definitely still interesting articles to read from all of the staff. I read stuff on the FP for about a year and a half before I finally clicked on oppositelock to see what it was all about, and fast forward to now (~6 months) and I visit here all the time. There's fun stuff here, but also really well written and well thought out articles here. It's pretty much the best place on the Internet, haha
